These are the people who cast….

As Dot Cotton would say “I’m not one to gossip but…”

I’m pretty sure the casting world has gone a totally crazy this summer!

You may have already guessed but I am referring to the casting of the controversial film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey

The trilogy received mix reviews and now so has the casting of Christian Grey (Charlie Hunnam) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson). Now I’m not saying these two actors aren’t talented. But this was not who I had in mind at all. If E.L. James wasn’t so precise on the character description Im sure she would have got away with any actor.

Personally I had a young charismatic Pierce Brosnan and a shy naive Alexis Bledel to play the roles. I just can’t imagine Hunnam and Johnson tearing up the sheets in the bedroom!

And I’m not the only one to think so; a petition by fans has be signed to change the casting. Over 75K signatures, that is what I call publicity!

Keeping with the casting gone mad theme!

Kerry Katona, Yes, Kezza has been cast as Marilyn Monroe.

No that is correct. You don’t need to go to specsavers.

The new musical, written and directed by Belevedere Pashun has no official run yet. But the former atomic kitten star will do an invite only performance this September (I wonder why aye?).  The tragic life of Marilyn Monroe is known worldwide, which is why the story of Monroe has been adapted countless times. Most recently in Smash a musical drama television series revolved around the fictional creation of Bombshell the story of Marilyn Monroe. Starring Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee portrayed the struggle of a developing musical.

This was a frequent topic during my final year at University, seeing celebs being cast in new musicals was more than frustrating! As for my course mates and I, we knew the hard work and training that goes into being a performer. But now apparently paying your dues in theatre world now means diddly squat. You probably have a better chance being cast if you were a band girl dropout!

So like Smash I hope there is countless casting changes leading up to the west end!

Because somehow I can’t quite imagine Kerry Katona doing a better job than Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty (pictured below)!

  1. Totally agree with the Katona comment, how is that ever going to be a good choice? It’s not like she copes very well with pressure really!
Plus Smash is possibly my favourite show on TV right now (cancelled after 2 series grumble grumble) so pretty big stilettos to fill!
But I am DEFINITELY going to see the Monroe musical to see how Katona does it, so from that point of view it’s a brilliant marketing ploy
